Donna's passion for art has taken her from a 30-year award-winning career in commercial art, advertising, design and illustration to recently becoming a full time painter. Donna has earned local and national recognition, winning many fine art awards in solo and group exhibitions. Donna's work has been published in The Best of American Pastel Artists & Artisans, Volume 1 and The Best of Colored Pencil.
Donna's realistic colored pencil, pastel and acrylic paintings are imagined, planned and executed in a representational, realistic style. The paintings are not a photographic moment in time but represent a unique artistic interpretation through observation.
Donna emphasizes movement, pattern, light and dark in her paintings. She incorporates ten to fifteen colors in a cross-hatch and layering effect to build bold color values. Her work is diverse in subject matter, ranging from still life's that take a close-up look at the beauty of ordinary objects, to landscapes that capture the grace and rhythms of nature. She loves being involved in the creation of a variety of concepts.
Donna is a charter and signature member of the CPSA (Colored Pencil Society of America) and (two) time president of the North Carolina District Chapter 114 of the CPSA. Donna is a member of the Pastel Society of North Carolina, The North Carolina Coastal Pastel Society, The Twin Rivers Art Association, The Triangle Artist Guild, The International Guild of Realism, The Craven Arts Council and Gallery, and The Fine Arts League of Cary. Donna also served on the board of directors for the Wake Forest Cultural Arts Association.
Donna is represented and is one of four owners of New Bern ArtWorks & Company Gallery in New Bern, NC.
